Off to Paris!

Dear all, I’ll be off to Paris for a couple of days, and I’m looking forward to reporting on my fragrant finds when I get back! And this time I’ll remember to take pictures! I should still be able to post haikus from my phone, though. Till then, toodles and have a lovely weekend! 🙂

I’m gonna lie and say that the person in that picture isn’t me. So you still don’t know what I look like.

It was time to make my way to the square just outside Palais Royal, where I was to meet Monsieur D. At exactly 1pm sharp, Monsieur D arrived, and we exchanged pleasantries before strolling into the Palais Royal. Our first stop was, naturally, the famed Serge Lutens boutique, where countless other perfumistas before me had no doubt made the pilgrimage to. The outside display held a bust wearing a metal helmet, presumably to promote the latest release, La Vierge de Fer. Inside, the lighting was dim and the décor an oppressive, sinister goth designed to swallow up the soul. Or perhaps it was meant to recreate the sense of quietude and respect that one would encounter in a cathedral, with the perfumes in their bell jars being the objects of worship, and the blotter strips laid out neatly in front of them being the incense to be offered. Last week, I took the plunge and went on my first ever solo holiday… and what better place to spend it than in Paris? I’ve always wondered why I’ve never been to Paris, especially since I’m a sucker for all things smelly and Paris is the perfume mecca of the world that is only a 2.5 hour train ride away from London! Suffice to say that I had the best holiday ever, and I’ve recorded some of my thoughts and observations here. They may not necessarily all be about fragrance and all things smelly, but I’ve weaved in some of my scented explorations as well. If you’re only interested in the perfume, I discuss Guerlain somewhere in the middle. So, let’s start from the very beginning…

Smell Bent – Free Shipping on US orders over $25, international orders over $50

Monaco DependentNow, I’m in no way affiliated to Smell Bent, but since I like the brand so much, I thought I’d share this so that we can enjoy savings on the shipping. Smell Bent is an indie perfume brand set up by Brent Leonesio. The line is fun, silly and did I mention… fun? The artwork’s done by Brent himself (I think) and never fails to make me laugh. I currently own 2 full bottles: Monaco Dependent, a photo-realistic orange blossom scent and Incensed, a vanilla-drenched incense fragrance that I sometimes spritz on my pillow before heading to bed just cause it’s so soothing and fuzzy at the same time.

The best part about Smell Bent is that you can order samples or sample sets that are 4ml each, which is nice for quite a few good wearings (2ml samples disappear far too quickly!), and they don’t cost much at all. Oh, and you get a handwritten note from Brent when you purchase stuff, which is a nice personal touch.

At the moment, I’m eyeing Sweet Tyranny, the latest iris/sandalwood (mmmmm…) fragrance released by Smell Bent.

Smell Bent is available here. Check it out and let me know what you think!
